Program SLO #2: Perform self-assessment for lifelong learning to provide evidence-based practice of dental hygiene.
May 28, 2015. At the end of each patient's treatment in clinic, we evaluate our performance on the bottom of an NCR form. The instructor also comments on our performance. My Professor Janine Dunn, RDHAP stated "I observed your ability to be proactive in your patient care. A lot of dentists appreaciate hygienists who think ahead in treatment plan and care." She was referring to how I treatment planned GLUMA desensitization and composite polishing for the patient on my own. I commented on how I can improve on my composite poslishing skills. The NCR form is the method we use in clinic to self-assess and create a plan of action for next time in clinic. In order to improve in clinic, we must be able to identify our problem areas. But it is nice to see when our strengths are evident to our instructors.
Program SLO #3: Understand and interpret the scientific literature and research as it relates to the evidence-based practice of dental hygiene.
Spring 2014. West Los Angeles College. Annual Student Poster Showcase. I did my research on the DASH Diet, Dietary Approach to Stop Hypertension. The scientific literature shows that high blood pressure can be treated through lifestyle and nutritional changes. My poster won 3rd place among all the health sciences and career programs. To my left is Mrs. Carmen Dones, the Director of the Dental Hygiene Program. Link to Annual Poster Showcase Website.
Program SLO #4: Utilize current technology to enhance education, patient care, research and professional growth.
